Weleda Perineum Massage Oil is a pure, natural formula that nourishes and prepares the skin for birth. A massage with this mild composition, formulated with gentle almond oil and vitamin E rich wheat germ oil, relaxes the perineum area and keeps the skin in the birth area supple and flexible.

Regular perineal massage improves the skin's elasticity, and this oil facilitates this special massage.

The majority of women would wish for a birth without perineal cuts. Preparation for birth includes regular massage of the perineum to keep the area soft and elastic.

This massage promotes circulation maintaining the pliability of the tissues. The gentle mixture of essential oils is acceptable to use on the sensitive skin of the perineum.

This oil is a product of the Weleda Pregnancy and Breastfeeding line, developed by experienced midwives and pharmacists.

Perineal massage can be done either by yourself or by your partner, 3 to 4 times weekly for five to ten minutes. In preparation for the massage it is advisable to first empty the bladder. It is helpful, particularly before the first massage, to take a bath before the massage. This helps to stimulate the circulation and soften the tissues.

Settle into a relaxed, comfortable position. Moisten the thumb (or index finger if your partner is massaging) with Perineum Massage Oil and glide gently over the tissues, ensuring the massage is painless. Insert the finger into the vagina to around the second finger joint. Massage rhythmically with a light touch on the vaginal wall in a rotating movement, like the hand of a clock moving back and forth from 3 to 9. With each massage the tissues and muscles will feel more relaxed and softer, so that the length of the massage can be increased. Massage the perineum until a light tingling can be felt, then massage the tissue between the vagina and anus gently between the thumb and middle fingers. After massage excess oil can be removed by washing in warm water.
