Uses:
Physical or mental stress, fatigue, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, menopause.
How it works:
A group of compounds isolated from Eleutherococcus called the eleutherosides, which include naturally-occurring steroids, are thought to represent the main active constituents. These have a wide range of activities, which support the body’s many processes, giving a revitalising effect. In addition, polysaccharides present have been found to improve immune function.
Additional advice:
Not to be taken by diabetics, epileptics, schizophrenics, those suffering from hypertension or anxiety or those on heart medication or hormone treatments such as HRT or oral contraceptives. It should not be taken together with stimulants such as caffeine. Take it at a different time of day to vitamin B and C supplements, as it aids their secretion.
If Eleutherococcus is needed for longer than three months a month long break is recommended.
